Kalaburagi, Dec 22 (Reporter) Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Sunday disclosed that his government has both audio and video evidence proving BJP MLC CT Ravi used derogatory language against Minister for Women and Child Development, Lakshmi Hebbalkar, on the floor of the Karnataka Legislative Council during the winter session in Belagavi on December 19.
Speaking to the media, Siddaramaiah said, “We have collected substantial evidence, including audio and video recordings, showing that Ravi used highly offensive and abusive language against Hebbalkar. Several MLCs were witnesses to this disgraceful behaviour. We are treating this as a criminal offense and are investigating it thoroughly."
The Chief Minister expressed perplexity over Ravi’s demand for a judicial inquiry, questioning, "If clear evidence already exists, why is he calling for a judicial inquiry? The matter should be examined based on the available evidence, and those responsible must be held accountable.”
The incident, which occurred on the concluding day of the winter session, has become a flashpoint in the ongoing political rivalry between the Congress-led state government and the opposition BJP. Both Ravi and Hebbalkar were involved in a verbal altercation, leading to accusations of misconduct and abuse against the later.
Following the incident, Ravi was arrested and charged with using abusive language in the Legislative Council. However, he was granted bail by the court shortly thereafter, which sparked a political uproar.
BJP leaders have accused the Congress of politicising the issue, claiming that the arrest was a targeted attack on one of their prominent leaders.
In his defence, Ravi denied the allegations and insisted that the accusations were part of a larger conspiracy to undermine his credibility. He called for a judicial inquiry into the incident, which has only intensified the political confrontation.
Siddaramaiah, however, has dismissed Ravi's demand for a judicial inquiry, stating that the government is committed to ensuring that justice is served based on the facts and the evidence at hand. "What happened in the Legislative Council was not just an unfortunate incident, it was a criminal act. The law will take its course," the CM asserted.
The incident has not only sparked a fierce debate in Karnataka’s political circles but also drawn reactions from various sections of the public, with many expressing their dismay at the conduct of elected representatives.
The opposition BJP, on the other hand, has rallied behind Ravi, alleging political vendetta and accusing the Congress of attempting to tarnish the reputation of their party leaders...////...
