Bengaluru, Dec 14 (Reporter) Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Saturday called for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry following explosive allegations by former Minority Commission Chairman Anwar Manippady against State BJP President Vijayendra Yediyurappa.
According to Manippady, Vijayendra, son of BJP stalwart BS Yediyurappa, allegedly offered him a ₹150 crore bribe to suppress investigations into Wakf property encroachments during Yediyurappa’s tenure as Chief Minister.
Taking to X, Siddaramaiah said, "This is a shocking revelation! Anwar Manippady has written directly to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, exposing Vijayendra’s attempt to bribe him to bury the Wakf property encroachment report. Despite this, PM Modi remains silent, raising serious questions about the BJP’s commitment to fighting corruption."
Manippady, who initially uncovered largescale encroachments on Wakf properties, reportedly claimed that Vijayendra visited his residence during Yediyurappa’s tenure and attempted to persuade him to suppress the findings. Manippady further alleged that he reported the incident to both PM Modi and the BJP President at the time.
Siddaramaiah criticised the BJP leadership for failing to act, saying, "What happened to Modi’s ‘Na khaunga, na khane doonga’ promise? Why is the BJP shielding Vijayendra and others involved in the Wakf property loot? Karnataka has become an ATM for BJP leaders under the guise of governance."
The Congress leader also linked this incident to other corruption allegations within the Karnataka BJP, including Basangouda Patil Yatnal’s earlier claim that ₹2,000 crore was spent to secure Yediyurappa’s Chief Ministership. "From COVID procurement scams to Wakf property looting, the BJP’s misdeeds are now coming to light," Siddaramaiah added.
He demanded immediate action from the BJP-led central government. "PM Modi must order a CBI probe into these allegations. The people of Karnataka deserve transparency, not baseless counter-allegations against Congress leaders to divert attention."
The BJP has yet to officially respond to these allegations. Meanwhile, the Congress appears poised to intensify its attacks on the BJP’s governance record in Karnataka ahead of the next electoral cycle...////...
