Gangtok, Dec 30 (Reporter) Six stranded bikers were safely rescued by the Sikkim Police and villagers of Lachung after they were badly stuck up following sudden snowfall at at Yakshe, below the Yumthang Valley, in north Sikkim, police said on Monday
" Members of the Lachung Dzomsa Hotel Association, alongside the Lachung Police team, successfully carried out a rescue operation following a sudden snowfall at Yakshe, below the Yumthang Valley in North Sikkim last night. The operation was launched after six tourists, traveling on three bikes, became stranded due to the unexpected snowfall." Police in a statement said .
" The rescue mission was swiftly executed, and all six tourists were safely brought to safety. Following the successful operation, the road to Yumthang Valley has been cleared and is now open for traffic. However, authorities are urging drivers to remain cautious while traveling through the area, as the presence of black ice on the roads may still pose a risk," it added.
The travellers were advised to check road conditions before setting out and to take necessary precautions for their safety.
Lachung is a mountain village close to the Tibetan border, in the northeastern Indian state of Sikkim. It's divided by the Lachung River. The village is home to the 19th-century Buddhist Lachung Monastery, surrounded by apple orchards.
