Chennai, Dec 28 (Reporter) Attributing technical glitch for the leakage of the First Information Report
(FIR) in the Anna University girl student alleged sexual assault case, Tamil Nadu Law Minister
S Reghupathy on Saturday said a Special Investigation Team (SIT) as directed by the Madras
High Court would be formed to probe the matter.
In a statement on X, he said soon after the incident, police acted swiftly and arrested the
accused and this along with other details pertaining to the case were submitted before the
High Court, which had taken up suo motu cognizance of the matter and also heard two
PILs filed by Advocates seeking a CBI probe into the incident.
"As directed by the High Court the SIT will be constituted and the investigation into the incident
will continue", he said.
Referring to the Christmas vacation Bench of the High Court pulling up Chennai City Police
Commissioner A.Arun over the leakage of the FIR that revealed the victim's identity, the
Minister said it happened due to a technical glitch.
"The FIR got leaked in public domain owing to a technical glitch in the National Informatics
Centre (NIC) CCTNS service network and that police are not responsible for it", Mr Reghupathy
said.
As far as the views expressed (by the court) on the Police Commissioner addressing a press
conference when the investigation was at a preliminary stage, the Minister clarified that the
All India Service (Conduct) Rules, 1968 which specifies the code of conduct for Civil Servant
in general, was duly followed and there was nothing wrong in it.
It may be noted the High Court, while coming down heavily on the Police Commissioner over
the FIR leakage, directed the Government to take action against him and also ordered a
compensation of Rs 25 lakh to the victim, who underwent mental trauma and agony after
her identity was revealed in the FIR...////...
