SJTA initiates action on three temple cooks breaking age-old tradition

Puri, Oct. 2 (Reporter) Sri Jagannath temple administration (SJTA) has initiated action against three Supakaras (temple cooks) for violating the temple direction and breaking the age-old tradition. A press release from the temple administration said three Supakaras were prohibited to enter the temple premises and the kitchen and were served show cause notices. One of them who is connected with other religious services has been suspended. The legal actions have been taken under 1955-21 B (a) of the Sri Jagannath temple Act, the release said. Devotees were shocked to learn that iron utensils were used by the Supakaras in the temple kitchen to cook Mahaprasad, breaking the tradition. Sri Jagannath temple chief administrator Arabind Padhi had directed a team comprising temple officials and senior servitors traditionally having access to the temple kitchen to inspect the kitchen, siege the utensils and stop the use of the iron utensils The team reported that a number of Supakaras are violating the directives and using the iron utensils...////...
