Agartala, June 3 (Reporter) An Indian border guard BSF jawan belonging to 150 battalion was allegedly attacked by a group of Bangladeshi smugglers on Saturday along the Indo-Bangladesh border in Tripura’s Sepahijala district at Gate No 196 under Kalamchoura Border Outpost, police sources said here on Monday.
Police said a BSF constable identified as Bhole when performing duty at the border found a group of Bangladeshi miscreants crossing over wire fencing illegally and gathered near the fencing gate intending to smuggle sugar in broad daylight.
“The accused group abused the jawan with vulgar gestures and language. When he attempted to disperse the miscreants, they harassed him and tried to drag him to Bangladesh. They also snatched his weapon along with a radio set. The jawan managed to escape, however, he was assaulted with bamboo sticks and an iron rod due to which he sustained grievous injuries,” police stated.
A commandant-level flag meeting of BSF was held on Monday with its counterpart, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) over the issue, and the Indian force demanded action against the miscreants for attacking Indian jawans.
