Chennai, Jan 24 (Reporter) Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting and Parliamentary Affairs, Dr.L.Murugan on Friday announced that a Global Thirukkural Conference will soon be held in New Delhi. The Union government was actively making preparations for this prestigious event, he said, while inaugurating a two-day international conference on Hypnosis across Lifespan: Promotion, Prevention, and Intervention at Pondicherry University. He said the magic of Thirukkural, the famous and ancient Tamil couplet compiled by Saint Tamil Poet Thiruvalluvar, is perpetual and this classical book is reverred as one of the best treasures of the world. Dr. Murugan also expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for putting the Tungsten mining project on hold following the concerns raised by the people from nearby villages of Melur in Madurai district of Tamil Nadu. Speaking about the conference, Dr Murugan highlighted the significance of hypnosis as an integrative and adaptable tool for promoting well-being, preventing dysfunction, and effectively intervening during critical moments. He also said conferences like this foster important conversations and advance the understanding and application of hypnosis across the human lifespan. The Minister also underscored the vast opportunities for exploration in the field of hypnosis, ranging from groundbreaking research and case studies to cross-disciplinary collaborations and also encouraged young scholars, practitioners, and industry leaders to engage with this promising field. Dr Murugan also spoke about the government initiatives like One Nation, One Subscription and the Anusandhan National Research Foundation as steps to strengthen India’s research and development ecosystem. As part of the event, the Minister released two books, Book of Abstracts and Ulaviyal Sorkalanjiyam, authored by Prof. Panch Ramalingam, Director (in-charge) of Pondicherry University’s UGC-Malaviya Mission Teacher Training Centre. He also presented the Academy of Hypnosis Lifetime Achievement Awards and the Indian School of Psychology Association Leadership Awards 2024. The two-day conference is being jointly organized by the Indian School of Psychology Association, the Academy of Hypnosis, Vadodara, and Pondicherry University.
