Stalin leaves for US to attract investments, given rousing send off

Chennai, Aug 27 (Reporter) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin left here on Tuesday night for United States to attract investments to the State. Mr Stalin, who is going on an official visit to the US for 17 days and expected to return on September 14, was given a rousing send off by his Cabinet colleagues, senior party leaders, MPs and MLAs, besides party functionaries. During his visit, Mr Stalin will meet investors, industrialists and businessmen and hold talks with them to invest in the State. Several MoUs were also expected to be signed during his visit. Mr Stalin will start his visit from San Francisco and would also visit Chicago to meet the investors to attain the goal of making TN a USD one trillion economy by 2030. He was also expected to meet and interact with the Tamil diaspora in the US. This is the third foreign visit for Mr Stalin after he assumed office as Chief Minister for the first time in May 2021. He had earlier visited UAE, Spain, Japan and Singapore and other countries and inked pacts with investors. Talking to reporters at the airport before emplaning for US, he said he said the visit was his Dravidian Model governance's continuous efforts to attract investments and attain the goal making TN a USD one trillion dollar economy soon, though the target was 2030. Recalling his earlier foreign visits, Mr Stalin said during those trips 17 MoUs were signed attracting an investment of Rs 10,882 crores and offering jobs to 18,521 people. Of this, investments to the tune of Rs 990 crores, involving five projects have started their commercial production, he said and recalled that he launched the projects of Hi-Bi firm of Singapore and Omran firm of Japan during the recent TN Investment Conclave which were among the five firms offering jobs to 1,538 people. He said three projects involving an investment of 3,769 crore were under various stages of implementation and pointed out the projects inaugurated him and the foundation stones laid at the TN investment conclave. Stating that all the MOUs signed by the government were being expeditiously implemented, the Chief Minister said after the Drvidian model took charge 872 MoUs were signed committing an investment of 9,99,93 lakh crore, offering jobs to 18,89,234 people. Of this 234 firms have started their production providing jobs for 4,16,717 people and other projects will be set in motion in due course. Reiterating that his visit to US to attract investments was aimed at achieving the USD one trillion economy soon, he said he would drew the world's attention by visiting San Franssico and Chicago and would disclose the quantum of investments and MoUs signed after his return to the city.
