Kolkata, Dec 1 (Reporter) The Special Task Force (STF) of Kolkata Police begins a probe to the alleged terror connection of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) leader Selim Matabbar, who has been arrested with fake documents, including an Indian passport and Aadhaar card from a city hotel, sources said on Sunday. The suspicion of probe authorities of terror connection heightened after they did not find the mobile phone in the possession of the Bangladesh national, who has been staying illegally for the last two years with a fake name - Rabi Sharma - and has two Aadhaar cards with addresses of Nadia and New Delhi. The STF already informed the Bangladesh Deputy High Commission of the development after his arrest from a hotel on Friday night at Marquis Street. He was produced before the Bankshall court on Saturday afternoon and remanded to police custody up to December 8. During interrogations, Sharma confessed his original name was Selim Matabbar and that he hailed from Madaripur in Bangladesh, sources said. He fled from Bangladesh two years ago following a political dispute with the then ruling party Awami League and since then was living in Kolkata. The arrest of the BNP leader happened at a time when the bilateral relations between India and Bangladesh have plummeted after the Hindu monk - Chinmoy Krishna Das - was arrested by Bangladeshi police at Dhaka airport on Monday. ISKCON, Kolkata, Vice President Radharaman Das said so far 4 ISKCON Brahmacharis have been arrested in Bangladesh. "Till now 4 ISKCON Brahmacharis are arrested in Bangladesh. When two of them went to provide medicine to Chinmoy Das Prabhu, the police arrested them," Das said on his X handle. " Secretary Chinmoy Das has also been arrested... One of the temples was closed earlier, yesterday another temple was destroyed. " They haven't given any reason for the arrest. All the ISKCON volunteers are feeling helpless today," he added. Das said " We have temples in 150 countries, 850 big temples, and over a thousand centres - crores of ISKCON devotees are praying for the safety of Hindus and other minorities in Bangladesh." Meanwhile, Bangiya Hindu Jagaran Mancha on Sunday organised a rally at Durgapur-Asansol to condemn the attacks on the minority and the Hindus in Bangladesh. The rally was led by BJP lawmaker Agnimitra Paul. Meanwhile, a city hospital in north Kolkata decided to boycott the Bangladesh national patients for now for dishonouring the Indian Flag in that country. J N Roy Hospital at Maniktala decided that it would stop taking Bangladesh patients until the people of that country did not stop attacking the minority community and Hindus.
