Kolkata, Jan 21 (Reporter) Union minister Sukanta Majumdar on Monday questioned the West Bengal government's hurry to move Calcutta High Court against the Sealdah court verdict handing life sentence to Sanjay Roy in the women medic rape and murder case.
" Is the government trying to eliminate Sanjay Roy and save other government officials who are allegedly involved in the RG Kar case," Majumdar, who is also the President of BJP's Bengal unit, asked.
Majumdar told reporters that they believed that since the Supreme Court took the case suo motu, the apex court would surely intervene and provide justice for Abhaya.
" Yes we also wanted the death sentence for the real culprits, who are involved in the collective crime in the death of a woman trainee medic at her workplace in RG Kar hospital on August 9, 2024, the Union Minister of State of Education said.
He said this was the beginning but the issue was not dead.
Meanwhile, the parents of the victim's doctor on Monday expressed dissatisfaction with the West Bengal government's quick move to Calcutta High Court seeking a death sentence for Sanjay Roy.
" Why is the state government so interested in awarding a capital sentence to Sanjay Roy. Why Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is now showing urgency when she has not taken any administrative action against her police officials, who tampered with evidence of the murder of their daughter at the RG Kar hospital," they added.
" We will surely do our best to get justice for our daughter after getting the order copy from the court, and if needed we will move the Supreme court," they said.
