Hyderabad, Dec 8 (Reporter) The Indian Air Force's Suryakiran Aerobatic Team (SKAT) captivated thousands of spectators with a stunning display of aerial precision over Hussain Sagar Lake on Sunday evening.
The vibrant airshow, filled with loops, rolls, crosses, and inverted flying, drew enthusiastic cheers as the team painted the sky with the colours of the Indian tricolour. A special message, “Thank you Hyderabad! Mee premaku shukriya!” from Team Leader Group Captain Ajay Dasarathi added a personal touch to the event.
Established in 1996, Suryakiran is Asia’s only nine-aircraft aerobatic team and one of the elite few in the world. Over the years, the team has performed more than 700 displays in India and abroad, representing the Indian Air Force's professionalism and precision at international events in countries such as China, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Thailand, Singapore, and the UAE.
Flying Hawk Mk 132 advanced jet trainers, the nine pilots execute intricate maneuvers at breathtakingly close distances—just five meters apart. The team comprises 12 highly skilled pilots, led by Group Captain Ajay Dasarathi, a seasoned Su-30 MKI pilot, with Group Captain Sidhesh Kartik serving as Deputy Leader. Other members include experienced Squadron Leaders and Wing Commanders, with a dedicated technical and administrative support crew ensuring flawless execution. Together, they embody the motto "Sadaiva Sarvottam" (Always the Best).
The Hawk Mk 132, proudly manufactured in India by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), doubles as a training aircraft for new IAF fighter pilots. Recently, the aircraft underwent an indigenous upgrade with the integration of smoke pods capable of emitting saffron, white, and green smoke—the colors of the Indian flag. This innovation, developed at the IAF’s Base Repair Depot in Nashik, enhances the visual appeal of the airshow while celebrating India's achievements in aerospace technology.
The Suryakiran team's dedication, precision, and spirit of excellence serve as an inspiration to countless Indians, reminding spectators of the nation’s strength and technological progress, a defence statement said...////...
