Kolkata, June 13 (Reporter) Leader of Opposition in West Bengal Assembly Suvendu Adhikari has informed that BJP candidates in at least five parliamentary constituencies across the state could move election petitions in the Calcutta High Court when the court reopens next week.
"We will move the Calcutta High Court either on Tuesday or Wednesday with these election petitions since the court is on holiday on Monday," Adhikari told a media conference on Wednesday after having meetings with the respective candidates under the People's Representative Act of 1951.
He claimed BJP's Ghatal candidate Hiranmoy Chatterjee has already collected evidence from Keshpur and Sobong in Medinipur to move the election petition, and also Sandeshkhali candidate Rekha Patra of Basirhat in South 24 Parganas.
Adhikari said that BJP candidate from Birbhum Debashish Dhar's candidature was cancelled by the election authorities on a ground that should have been applied to the winning TMC candidate Haji Nurul Islam as well.
BJP's Jaynagar (SC) candidate Dr Ashoke Kandari and party's Diamond Harbour candidate Abhijit Das alias Bobby would also move after the forensic laboratory reports on the CCTV cameras during the polling on June 1.
Besides, BJP's Cooch Behar candidate Nishit Paramanik, who had been winning till 18th round, suddenly lost election in the 19th and 20th round.
Adhikari said that Pramanik has said that EVM 17 C was not tallied in the 19th and 20th round in Cooch Behar. Besides, two counting agents for Nishit Pramanik were arrested by the order of the Cooch Behar district magistrate when they protested regarding the alleged anomalies of EVMs numbers.
He said the two arrested were jailed for five days and were released on Monday.
He said on Saturday he would move to Cooch Behar to meet Pramanik for detail discussion before the candidate of Cooch Behar decides on the election petition...////...
