Kolkata, Jan 5 (Reporter) Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari has
slammed Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee for her "adverse"
comment against BSF, holding the Central para-military force responsible for allowing the Bangladeshi nationals to create disturbance.
In an open letter to Banerjee on Saturday, Adhikari said he was
'deeply hurt' by the remarks of her against the Border Security Force, holding them directly responsible in regard to infiltration into the state territory and urged her to refrain from such adverse comments on the soldiers.
"There are 18 frontier states and union territories in our nation, and
it is for the first time in many years that a chief minister is
raising allegations of this nature against the soldiers merely for the
sake of vote bank, " Adhikari pointed out in his letter, which was
posted on his X handle ( formerly twitter).
" A chief minister is raising allegations of this nature against the
soldiers merely for the sake of vote banks?" asked adhikari and added,
" No challenge, no matter how daunting, could not weaken their (
soldiers) morales."
" However, when a citizen , especially a public representative and a
chief minister, levels such an allegation, it debilitates their
morale," he said in a 4-page letter.
.
Banerjee on January 2 claimed the BSF was allowing infiltrators to
enter West Bengal from Bangladesh. She claimed that "goons are being
sent through bordering areas like Islamampur, Sitai and Chopra,
claiming that "this is a blueprint of the Union Government to disturb
West Bengal."
Calling it the Centre's "nefarious blueprint", the TMC supremo alleged
that the BSF, which guards the Bangladesh border, was allowing
infiltration into Bengal and also torturing women. She alleged the BSF
was allowing infiltration from different areas into the state and
torturing the women here..
" The TMC is not guarding the borders. The border is not in our
hands,so if someone accuses the TMC of permitting infiltration, I will
point out that it is the BSF's responsibility," Banerjee reiterated.
The police have all the information, and the Centre has also such
information, she pointed out.
Adhikari accused Ms Banerjee of indulging in "low-level politics" by
blaming the BSF for infiltration, stating that the security forces
serve the nation, not the government.
"The security forces serve the nation and not the government. They are
the protectors of the nation. The way you have blamed our soldiers for
the infiltration happening in West Bengal in the last few days
displays the lowest level of your politics," Adhikari wrote this to
Banerjee.
"Allegations and counter-allegations indeed occur in politics. But
dragging security forces into it, insulting them and passing the buck
for your failures to them is nothing but substandard politics. This is
an insult to the 75,000 personnel of the CAPFS, 33,000 BSF personnel
in Bengal and all the soldiers of the nation," the Nandigram MLA said.
"It is deeply painful to see our valiant soldiers being insulted. Our
security forces risk their lives to protect the borders of our nation
and the citizens regardless of whether it is shivering cold, searing
heat, tempestuous rain or a disaster. The nation will never forget
your insulting words about our soldiers," the BJP leader pointed out.
Adhikari alleged that the state government's reluctance to cooperate
with the BSF on border-related subjects is a significant issue.
"When these infiltrators come to a village, then why do the patwaris
make their identity cards? How do they get their ration cards made?
How do the police and other officials verify them as Bona fide
citizens and issue their identity cards?" Adhikari asked.
Adhikari said the Narendra Modi government is committed to detecting
infiltrators, deleting their names from voters' list and deporting
them.
"I appeal to you not to sacrifice the art, culture and the demography
of West Bengal for the greed of vote banks. The ongoing attempts to
erase West Bengal red culture and heritage must be stopped, otherwise,
the future generations will never forgive you," Adhikari concluded...////...
