Pune, Jan 13 (Reporter) Veteran classical singer Swarayogini, Dr. Prabha Atre, died early Saturday morning at her residence in Pune. She was 92 years old. Her death has left the music world in mourning. Dr. Atre suffered a cardiac arrest early in the morning. She was immediately admitted to the hospital, where she was declared dead. Shrinivas Joshi, Executive President of Arya Sangeet Prasarak Mandal, said, " I am deeply saddened to hear the news of the passing away of Kirana Gharana’s veteran vocalist, Swarayogini Padma Vibhushan Dr. Prabha Atre. It came as a shock to me, considering that she was doing well when I last met her. She was a guru-like sister to my mother while being my musical aunt. She was a disciple of Sureshbabu Mane. She had known me since my childhood, and we shared good family relations. Her vocals not only showcase the distinctive characteristics of the Kirana Gharana, but she was also an excellent composer. Over the past few years, she has graced the stage of the Sawai Gandharva Bhimsen Mahotsav, blessing us with her performances. I extend my heartfelt condolences and pay my humble tribute to her.
