Chennai, Aug 16 (Reporter) Asserting that the DMK has won in people's forums
continuously right from the 2019 Lok Sabha polls to the recent Vikravandhi
Assembly bypoll, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and Party President M K Stalin
on Friday has set a target of winning 200 seats in the 2026 Assembly elections
and form the government again.
Addressing the DMK District Secretaries meeting at the party headquarters
'Anna Arivalayam' here, he gave a clarion call to the partymen setting a target
of winning 200 seats in the 2026 elections.
The state has a total of 234 Assembly constituencies.
Stating that the 200 seat target was not a mere political rhetoric, Mr Stalin said
it was a probable target that could be achieved through fieldwork and people's
goodwill.
Citing th DMK's continuous victory right from 2019 Lok Sabha elections and the
recent Vikravandi Assembly bypoll, he said "if we work without any slackness,
there is no doubt that we can form the government again in 2026".
He also appealed to the district secretaries, functionaries and the cadres to
commence their field work now itself to achieve this and function unwaveringly
for the next two years keeping the elections in mind.
Calling upon the district secretaries to highlight the ruling DMK's achievements,
including various welfare and flagship schemes to the people while responding
to criticisms, Mr Stalin said he did not set the 200 seat target in 2026 polls as
mere political rhetoric uttered from the dais.
"We have implemented several welfare schemes to such an extend and have
won the goodwill and trust of the people (as seen in 2021 Assembly elections
in which DMK won by a resounding margin and returned to power after ten
years and the complete sweep--40 out of 40--in the April Lok Sabha polls)",
he added.
Observing that the schemes launched by his government were designed in
such a way that there would be beneficiaries in each and every household of
the State, the Chief Minister said fieldwork was very important to transform
the welfare schemes that have reached and benefitted the people into votes.
"For this, we must start working from now onwards", he added.
Talking about his official visit to US beginning on August 27 to attract investments
for the state, Mr Stalin told the district secretaries to ensure that the works pertaining
to the "Mupperum Vizha" to mark DMK completing 75 years of its existence on DMK
Patriarch M Karunanidhi's centenary this year and the works entrusted to them.
He said though he would be in the US, he would be monitoring the party activities
through the headquarters.
Earlier, a resolution adopted the meeting said to mark the Platinum jubilee, a grand
event would be held in Chennai on September 17, the day party was founded by
DMK Stalwart C N Annadurai in 1949.
Stating that the contributions of the DMK movement, which has completed 75 years,
was still needed for the next 100 years, Mr Stalin it was because of the hardwork put
in and the sacrifices made by the crores of workers, that the DMK has grown and
strengthened its roots like a Banyan tree.
"We are now enjoying the fruits of hardwork put in by crores of workers for the growth
of the DMK", he said, adding, "we have a historic duty to take this movement to the
next generation and you have devote yourselves fully towards this"...////...
