Hyderabad, Jan 24 (Reporter) The Telangana State BJP unit has called for greater transparency regarding the state government’s investment claims following the recent World Economic Forum (WEF) summit.
While welcoming the reported signing of Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) worth Rs 1.7 lakh crore, the BJP has urged the government to release a white paper detailing the status of investments promised at last year’s WEF.
In a press note issued here on Friday, the BJP spokesperson NV Subash raised concerns about the lack of accountability in converting MoUs into actual investments.
“Last year, the state government claimed Rs 48,000 crore in investments from the WEF. However, there has been no clarity on how many of those MoUs have materialised into operational businesses. The people of Telangana deserve to know the facts and figures,” he said.
Subash emphasised that while the prospect of significant investments is a matter of pride for Telangana, it is essential to ensure that the claims translate into tangible benefits such as job creation for the state’s youth.
He highlighted potential reasons for the discrepancy between MoUs and execution, including issues related to land acquisition, state facilitation, and changing geopolitical scenarios.
“MoUs are often proposals rather than binding agreements, and many projects fail to materialise. This makes it imperative for the state government to present a transparent report on the outcomes of past investment claims. Such a move would build public trust and ensure accountability,” he added.
The BJP accused the government of using inflated investment figures as a publicity tool for political gain. It urged Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy to prioritise transparency by publishing a comprehensive report on the status of investments from previous WEF engagements.
