Hyderabad, Sep 1 (Reporter) In response to the significant inflows into irrigation projects and reservoirs due to heavy rains across Telangana, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy have directed the state Irrigation Department to take necessary measures to maximize water storage for future use. The CM and Irrigation Minister reviewed the current water discharge from various projects with the concerned officials and instructed them to ensure that water is efficiently stored in ponds, reservoirs, and other water bodies within the project limits, an official statement said on Sunday. In Peddapalli district, the Sripada Yellampally project has nearly reached its full capacity of 20 TMC, with current storage at 18.45 TMC. As a result, the project gates have been opened to release excess water into the Godavari River. The officials have been directed to release no less than one TMC of floodwater daily from Yellampally. The Chief Minister also advised lifting water from the Nandi and Gayatri Pump Houses to fill reservoirs, including Mid Manair, Lower Manair Dam, Ranganayak Sagar, and Mallanna Sagar. The capacity of the Mid Manair reservoir is 27 TMC, with current storage at 15 TMC. Officials are instructed to lift over 14,000 cusecs of water from Mid Manair and release it into Lower Manair Dam, with an additional 6,400 cusecs to be released to Ranganayak Sagar from Annapurna Reservoir. Water from Ranganayak Sagar will be pumped to Mallanna Sagar and Kondapochamma Sagar to ensure their optimal filling. From these reservoirs, water will be further lifted to the Singur project and Nizam Sagar Dam. The Annapurna and Ranganayak Sagar reservoirs each have a capacity of 7.53 TMC, while Mallanna Sagar has a capacity of 50 TMC, with the current storage at 11.43 TMC. Kondapochamma Sagar has a capacity of 15 TMC, with present water levels at 7.91 TMC. The Chief Minister emphasized following the Central Water Commission (CWC) guidelines and advised officials to store a maximum of 18 TMC to 20 TMC in Mallanna Sagar and 10 TMC in Kondapochamma Sagar, while ensuring all necessary precautions are taken.
