Hyderabad, Jan 26 (Reporter) Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy unveiled a statue of Bharat Ratna Dr B R Ambedkar at the Dr B R Ambedkar Open University on Sunday, emphasising the significance of protecting constitutional values and strengthening education systems in the state. Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister expressed concern over the ongoing discourse on safeguarding the Constitution in the country. He underscored that the university, established with the vision of Dr Ambedkar, should transcend the role of merely issuing certificates and instead serve as a hub for addressing societal challenges. He credited former Prime Minister P V Narasimha Rao for advancing the university as a tool for social responsibility. Reddy criticized attempts to undermine educational rights, asserting that no authority has the right to deprive citizens of access to education. He reaffirmed his government's commitment to revitalize the state's neglected education system by appointing vice-chancellors aligned with the aspirations of the people of Telangana. Notably, after 20 years, an academician from the Dalit community has been appointed as the Vice-Chancellor of Osmania University. The Chief Minister instructed university vice-chancellors to prepare a decade-long roadmap to strengthen institutions and assured that the government would take responsibility for its implementation. Reddy expressed opposition to the privatization of universities, advocating for their reconstruction and development to meet the needs of the state. He highlighted the contributions of Telangana's universities, which have produced prominent figures like P V Narasimha Rao and Jaipal Reddy. Echoing Dr Ambedkar's vision, Reddy emphasized that true progress lies not in grand infrastructure but in ensuring that welfare initiatives benefit the underprivileged. He raised concerns over proposed changes to University Grants Commission (UGC) regulations, labelling them a threat to state autonomy and an attack on constitutional principles. The Chief Minister warned that centralising control over universities could turn them into platforms for divisive propaganda. He appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to reconsider the proposed UGC reforms, describing them as a cultural and constitutional assault on states. Reddy affirmed that Telangana would not cede its powers and hinted at potential protests if the Center did not reverse its decision. The Chief Minister also criticised the central government for its perceived neglect of Telangana in the recent Padma Awards, lamenting the exclusion of renowned individuals like Gaddar, Chukka Ramaiah, Andesri, Gorati Venkanna, and Jayadhir Tirumala Rao. He announced plans to address the issue through a formal letter to the Prime Minister. Earlier in the day, Reddy laid the foundation stone for several facilities at Dr B R Ambedkar Universal University, including a Skill Development Center, Digital Resource Center, Central Instrumentation, and staff quarters...////...
