Hyderabad, Feb 14 (Reporter) Congress President Mallikarujun Kharge on Wednesday approved two candidates from Telangana to contest the ensuing Rajya Sabha Biennial elections to be held on February 27. The Congress President has approved the candidature of former Union Minister Ms. Renuka Chowdhury and Telangana State Youth Congress President M. Anil Kumar Yadav from Telangana, AICC General Secretary K C Venugopal said in a release here. The Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) had earlier left the decision of selecting candidates for the upcoming Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha elections to AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge and the party’s Central Election Committee (CEC). A unanimous resolution to this effect was adopted last month during the Pradesh Election Committee (PEC) meeting that was attended by Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy at the Gandhi Bhavan here. Apart from Telangana, the Congress President also approved three candidates -- Ajay Maken, Dr Syed Naseer Hussain, and GC Chandrashekar from Karnataka and Askoh Singh from Madhya Pradesh for Rajya Sabha elections. With current numbers in the Telangana assembly, the ruling Congress can bag two seats and the opposition BRS one unanimously. Congress and its ally CPI have 65 MLAs and BRS has 39 MLAs in the current Telangana assembly.
