Hyderabad, June 8 (Reporter) Congress candidate Theenmaar Mallanna defeated his nearest rival, BRS candidate Enugu Rakesh Reddy, by more than 14,000 votes in the Warangal-Khammam-Nalgonda graduate MLC by-election.
The results were declared at midnight on Friday.
The by-election was held on May 27, and the counting of votes took place in four halls of the A Duppalapalli State Warehousing Corporation warehouse on the outskirts of Nalgonda town, starting at 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday and concluding at midnight on Friday.
The counting of first-preference votes across four rounds was completed by Thursday night. Congress candidate Theenmaar Mallanna received 122,813 votes, while BRS candidate Enugu Rakesh Reddy secured 104,248 votes. BJP candidate Gujjula Premender Reddy finished in third place with 43,313 votes.
As no candidate secured more than 50 percent of the votes, second-preference votes were counted, and the final results were announced at midnight on Friday.
A total of 52 candidates, including Enugu Rakesh Reddy from BRS, Theenmaar Mallanna from Congress, and Gujjula Premender Reddy from BJP, contested the by-election. Voters from the constituency, spanning 34 assembly constituencies, cast their ballots at 605 polling booths.
72.44 percent of the 463,839 registered graduate voters participated in this by-election.
