Hyderabad, May 29 (Reporter) Telangana Chief Secretary Santhi Kumari has instructed officials to formulate an action plan to ensure that the Amrabad Tiger Reserve becomes a completely plastic-free zone by the end of July.
The Chief Secretary held a meeting with officials from the Forest Department, Panchayat Raj, and the Pollution Control Board to discuss measures to achieve this goal, an official statement said on Wednesday.
During the meeting, Santhi Kumari directed officials to enforce a ban on the use of plastic bags, bottles, and other plastic items within the Amrabad Tiger Reserve.
She emphasized the need to establish additional check posts to remove banned plastic articles and to promote eco-friendly alternatives such as paper bags, cloth/jute bags, and leaf plates.
Officials were also instructed to launch a massive awareness campaign through print and electronic media and by erecting signboards at the panchayat, district, and state levels. Local vendors along the highway should be sensitized about the plastic ban in the Tiger Reserve area.
The Chief Secretary also urged officials to expedite the process of relocating people living in four habitations within the Amrabad Tiger Reserve according to established timelines.
She stressed that funds available under Haritha Nidhi should be utilized within the current year.
Additionally, the Chief Secretary asked endowment department officials to take steps to eliminate the use of plastic at the Maisamma temple in Mahbubnagar district.
