Telangana: DRI officials seize foreign origin gold worth Rs 3.71 crore in Hyderabad

Hyderabad, Sept 28 (Reporter) Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) officials have seized foreign-origin gold valued at RS 3.71 crore while being carried from Coimbatore to Hyderabad. Acting upon a specific intelligence report regarding the movement of smuggled foreign-origin Gold from Coimbatore the DRI officials intercepted three persons at Raikal Toll Plaza, Telangana who were travelling in a car from Coimbatore to Hyderabad on Friday, the DRI officials said in a release here. Investigation revealed that they were carrying smuggled gold by concealing it in a specially-made cavity below the handbrake of the vehicle. The DRI officials recovered four packets wrapped in brown tape/paper containing a total 18 numbers of 24Kt gold bars/cut pieces of 99.9 percent purity, weighing 4778 grams, valued at Rs.3,71,25,060 from their possession. The recovered gold along with the vehicle was seized and the 3 persons travelling in the car were arrested under the provisions of the Customs Act, 1962 and remanded to Judicial Custody.
