Telangana Dy CM Bhatti Vikramarka announces completion timeline for Yadadri Thermal Power Plant

Yadadri Bhuvanagiri (Telangana), Nov 3 (Reporter) Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu announced that the ongoing work on the Yadadri Thermal Power Plant is set to be completed by May 2025, adding 4,000 MW of power to the state grid. The Deputy CM, accompanied by Ministers Uttam Kumar Reddy and Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, visited the Yadadri Thermal Power Plant on Sunday. They flagged off a coal transport train from Ramagundam to the Yadadri Thermal Power Station (YTPS) at the Damaracharla Point take-off station. During the visit, Bhatti Vikramarka activated the switch linking the power generated in Stage I of YTPS to the power grid and reviewed the project progress with senior officials. Speaking to the media the Deputy CM expressed satisfaction over the successful linking of power from Stage I to the grid. He added that power from Stage II is already connected, and the remaining phases will be completed by March 2025 to bring 4,000 MW of power online. Bhatti Vikramarka pointed out that while Telangana was formed a decade ago, a new energy policy had not been introduced by the previous administration. However, the current Congress-led government is committed to developing a new energy policy, taking into account insights from intellectuals and energy experts. The proposed policy will be submitted to the State Assembly, reflecting input from all members. He emphasized the state’s focus on maximizing both conventional and non-conventional energy sources, including a significant push for green energy in line with global trends. The government aims to generate 20,000 MW of green energy as part of its environmental conservation strategy. Additionally, multinational companies (MNCs) setting up operations in Telangana will be encouraged to use a portion of green power in their production processes. Bhatti Vikramarka noted that power demand in Telangana is projected to reach approximately 22,288 MW by 2028-29 and could increase to 31,809 MW by 2034-35. The government is proactively developing plans to meet this demand, ensuring a reliable supply of quality power across industrial, agricultural, domestic, and other sectors. The Deputy CM reiterated Telangana’s commitment to becoming a role model in the power sector nationwide.
