Telangana Guv urges youth to actively participate in democracy on National Voters Day

Hyderabad, Jan 25 (Reporter) The 15th National Voters Day was celebrated across Telangana with enthusiasm with a call by the state Governor to the youths for increased voter engagement. Telangana Governor, Jishnu Dev Varma, presided over the state-level event as Chief Guest, emphasising the pivotal role of youth in strengthening democratic traditions. In his address, Governor Dev Varma highlighted the importance of voting as a fundamental tool for citizens to influence governance. He urged the people of Telangana to actively participate in the electoral process, stating, “I appeal to all citizens to contribute to strengthening our democratic fabric by exercising their right to vote. Leveraging technological tools provided by the Election Commission of India (ECI) can greatly simplify voter enrolment and enhance the voting experience.” The Governor commended the state’s peaceful conduct of elections and acknowledged the recent issuance of 5,45,026 new EPIC cards to first-time voters, praising the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) and his team for their diligent efforts in the successful publication of the Summary Revision of Photo Electoral Rolls on January 6, 2025. He also lauded the ECI's initiatives to make elections more accessible, including online voter registration, ramps at polling stations, braille-enabled Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), and out-of-turn voting for Persons with Disabilities (PwDs). He emphasised the need for active involvement from all stakeholders, including political parties and civil society organizations, in ensuring free and fair elections. “Telangana has set a benchmark with its successful conduct of recent Assembly and Parliament elections,” the Governor added while encouraging young voters to actively participate in shaping the state’s future. Chief Electoral Officer C Sudharshan Reddy presented a detailed report on voter engagement initiatives, noting that 5,45,026 voters aged 18-19 were enrolled during the draft Summary Revision Rolls 2025. He reiterated the importance of youth participation in elections, underscoring the theme of this year’s National Voters Day, “Nothing Like Voting, I Vote for Sure.” Celebrations were held at 35,907 polling stations across 20,034 locations in Telangana, with senior officials, including Additional CEO Lokesh Kumar D.S., I.A.S., Deputy CEO Satya Vani, and retired I.A.S. officer I.
