John Wesley unanimously elected CPI(M) State Secretary at Telangana Congress
Hyderabad, Jan 28 (Reporter) John Wesley was unanimously elected as the new State Secretary of the CPI(M) during the party's fourth state congress held at Gokul Garden in Sangareddy from January 25 to 28.
The congress, attended by party members from across Telangana, passed several resolutions addressing public issues and formed a new 60-member state committee, including 14 state secretariat members.
John Wesley, a long-time CPI(M) activist with over 30 years of service, hails from the joint Mahabubnagar district.
He has held various leadership roles, including State President and Secretary of the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) and State General Secretary of the Anti-Caste Discrimination Struggle Association. Known for his efforts in fighting caste discrimination and uniting social movements, he now makes history as the first Dalit to be elected State Secretary of CPI(M) in Telangana.
During the congress, resolutions were adopted to address issues such as fair compensation for landless farmers under the 2013 Land Acquisition Act, implementation of a Minimum Support Price Act, and mobilization of workers and farmers to demand better wages and social justice. The congress also called for a movement to secure housing for the poor.
The outgoing State Secretary, Tammineni Veerabhadram, was relieved of his duties due to age and health considerations after serving three terms and significantly strengthening the CPI(M) in Telangana.
Other senior leaders, including Cherupalli Seetharamulu and DG Narsingha Rao, were also relieved of their responsibilities.
