Hyderabad, Dec 20 (Reporter) Telangana Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy criticised the Dharani portal, calling it a major source of problems for farmers across Telangana, and highlighted its tragic consequences, including the case of Dalit farmer Maddela Krishnayya in Siddipet district.
Discussing the Bhu Bharati Bill (ROR Act 2024) in the Assembly Friday, Ponguleti recounted the plight of Maddela Krishnayya, a 73-year-old Dalit farmer from Mirudoddi Mandal, who purchased seven acres of land 35 years ago. Due to discrepancies in the Dharani portal, the land was registered in someone else’s name.
Facing insurmountable difficulties, Krishnayya tragically ended his life in January 2023. “This is just one of many such incidents,” Ponguleti stated, adding that the government has introduced the Bhu Bharati Act to prevent such injustices.
He criticised the Dharani portal and the 2020 Revenue Act, introduced during the previous regime, which he claimed had caused distress to lakhs of landowners.
Comparing it to the robust Revenue Act of 1971 enacted during the Congress era, Ponguleti asserted that the Bhu Bharati Act would serve as a national model for land reforms.
The minister also condemned the disruptive behaviour of BRS members during the discussion on the Bhu Bharati Bill, labelling their actions as “hooliganism” and an “insult to society.” He urged the Speaker to take appropriate action against those involved.
Addressing the absence of the Leader of the Opposition during the bill’s introduction, Ponguleti questioned the opposition's commitment to the welfare of the people.
“While we invited public suggestions and even incorporated a seven-page proposal from senior legislators like Harish Rao, the opposition prioritised chaos over constructive dialogue,” he remarked.
Ponguleti also criticised the focus on personal issues, such as the case against KTR, during the legislative proceedings, calling it a distraction from the vital discussions on land reforms.
He pointed out the irony of KCR’s governance, stating that despite his proclaimed dedication to land reforms and boasting of reading over 80,000 books, the 2020 Revenue Act had failed within three years.
The minister reaffirmed his commitment to empowering farmers and ensuring justice through the Bhu Bharati Act, calling it a step toward fulfilling the aspirations of the people of Telangana...////...
