Hyderabad, Aug 31 (Reporter) The Telangana State Election Commission (SEC) has initiated the preparation of the ward-wise Gram Panchayat voter list in anticipation of the upcoming Gram Panchayat elections.
A notification regarding the publication of the voter list was issued on August 21, 2024.
A meeting, chaired by State Election Commissioner Partha Saradhi on Saturday, was convened with representatives of recognized political parties to discuss the publication of the draft voter list.
The purpose of the meeting was to provide advance information, seek valuable advice, and gather suggestions from the political representatives.
The meeting was attended by officers of the SEC and representatives of recognized political parties, a statement said.
During the meeting, the State Election Commissioner explained the powers vested in the SEC under Article 243K of the Constitution, which empowers the Commission to conduct elections to local bodies.
The Commissioner outlined the procedure for the preparation and publication of the Gram Panchayat voter list. The draft electoral roll, based on the voter list published by the Election Commission of India on February 8, 2024, and the subsequent Assembly elections, will be prepared without any changes and announced on September 6, 2024.
The notification for the publication of the voter list will be issued at the district level on September 9, 2024, and at the Mandal level on September 10, 2024. Meetings with political representatives will be conducted to review the draft list.
Objections to the draft voter list will be welcomed from September 7 to September 13, 2024. These objections will be resolved by the District Panchayat Officer by September 19, 2024, with the final Gram Panchayat Ward electoral roll being published on September 21, 2024.
The Commissioner clarified that objections in the Gram Panchayat electoral roll, such as a voter moving from one ward to another or being wrongly registered in another Gram Panchayat, will be addressed by the Zilla Panchayat Adhikari. However, amendments like new entries or deletions in the Assembly electoral roll fall outside the jurisdiction of the District Panchayat Officer and are governed by the Representation of the People Act, 1950.
The SEC also directed that the Assembly electoral supplemental list-3, published on April 24 and July 10, 2024, is available on the official website of the SEC for reference. Eligible voters not yet registered can apply using Form-6, while changes or deletions can be requested through Form-8 and Form-7, respectively.
Political party representatives were advised to ensure that eligible voters are properly registered in the Assembly electoral roll, as this forms the basis for inclusion in the Gram Panchayat voter list.
The Commissioner encouraged suggestions from the political representatives, particularly regarding polling stations, the allocation of voters within wards, and ensuring that all eligible voters are aware of their rights...////...
