Hyderabad, Aug 28 (Reporter) Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy announced on Wednesday that the Telangana Talli (Mother) statue will be unveiled here on December 9. He said the process of the separate statehood started on December 9, 2009 and the birthday of Congress leader Sonia Gandhi, who played a crucial role in the creation of Telangana, falls on that day. Speaking after laying the foundation stone for the Telangana Talli statue at the Secretariat, Reddy highlighted that the separate statehood was a 60-year-long aspiration of the people of Telangana. The Chief Minister criticized the previous BRS government, stating that despite spending nearly Rs 22 lakh crore during its 10-year rule, it did not allocate even Rs 1 crore for the installation of the Telangana Talli statue. He added that the decision to lay the foundation stone was taken by Vedic scholars, who advised that no auspicious days were available until Dussehra, necessitating organizing the today’s event in a hurried manner. Reddy also mentioned that the absence of a statue of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on Tank Bund, who sacrificed his life for the country. In response, the government has decided to install a statue of Rajiv Gandhi in front of the Secretariat, alongside the Telangana Talli statue, to honour his contribution. The CM reiterated the government's commitment to reflecting Telangana's culture through the installation of the Telangana Talli statue, which is being designed by the JNTU Fine Arts Department. He expressed his pride in participating in the upcoming grand unveiling ceremony, which is expected to draw thousands of people.
