Bengaluru, Jan 17 (Reporter) India won the toss and elected to bat first in the third and final T20I at Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Wednesday.
The biggest takeaway at the toss was the inclusion of Sanju Samson who recently had cracked his maiden international and career-defining century against South Africa in Paarl. The century had helped India to clinch the ODI series against the Proteas 2-1.
Based on this feat, Sanju was a potential inclusion into the team right from the first match of the three-match T20I series but was made to warm the benches, giving preference to wicketkeeper Jitesh Sharma who was the much-preferred option at No.6. The Kerala batsman had cracked his century batting at No.3, a position which Virat Kohli occupies cannot be given away.
Apart from Sanju, pacer Avesh Khan and leg-spinner Kuldeep Yadav also were included in the Playing XI instead of Axar Patel, Jitesh Sharma and Arshdeep Singh.
For India, this will be the last match as a national unit ahead of the World Cup T20I in June. However, as individuals, the players will be up for grabs during the IPL tournament for World Cup selection.
For Afghanistan, the Bengaluru match will be an opportunity for Afghanistan players to get some practice before they lock horns with Sri Lanka in February and Ireland in March...////...
