Puri (Odisha), July 10 (Reporter) A three-member panel has been formed to investigate the causes of the incident where Lord Balabhadra tumbled down while being taken in a pahandi procession from the Taladhwaj chariot by the servitors on Tuesday night.
The servitors were escorting Lord Balabhadra from the chariot through the Charamala (a traditional ladder fixed to the rathas to facilitate the disembarkation of the deities) during the pahandi when the mishap took place injuring about a dozen servitors.
The three-member committee, comprising an additional district magistrate, a temple deputy superintendent, and a revenue officer, will probe the incident and submit a report within ten days of the Niladri Bije (the closing ritual of the Car Festival) to the Jagannath Temple Managing Committee.
This resolution was made during the temple managing committee meeting held on Wednesday, chaired by Gajapati Dibyasingh Dev.
The Gajapati said the incident during the pahandi has shocked millions of devotees across the world. He mentioned that overcrowding on the chariot could be one of the reasons for the mishap. The panel will look into every aspect of the situation leading to the incident and determine its cause, Gajapati added.
The temple administration has been instructed to take measures to prevent such incidents during the upcoming pahandis during Bahuda and Niladri Bije.
About a dozen servitors were injured in the incident, eleven of whom have been discharged after treatment, while one remains in the hospital for observation, said temple chief administrator Vir Vikram Yadav.
Justice Biswanath Rath’s panel's suggestions on reopening the Ratna Bhandar of the temple were presented to the Managing Committee, which approved them after making minor changes to some SOPs suggested by the High-Level Committee.
The Managing Committee’s proposal will be sent to the state government with a request to issue necessary orders to reopen the Ratna Bhandar on July 14.
Puri district magistrate Sidharth Shanker Swain said the administration has made preparations to reopen the Ratna Bhandar on the scheduled day.
Gajapati Dibyasingh Dev presided over the meeting, with almost all members of the body participating.
In Gundicha Temple, after the deities were placed on the Ratnasimhasan by Tuesday midnight, priests began the day on Wednesday morning with the performance of Mangal Arati, Mailuam, Tadaplagi, Abakash, Surya Puja, Rosahoma, and offering Gopal Bhog.
At noon, the deities were offered cooked mahaprasad, popularly called “Adap Abhada.” All the nitees and rituals of the deities are being observed as they are in the main temple.
Earlier on Wednesday, public darshan was closed for about four hours as three sets of Duttamahapatra servitors performed the facials of the deities, called “Banak Lagi,” using traditional color ingredients.
Later, the servitors dressed the deities in new clothes, after which devotees were allowed for both free and Parmanik (ticketed) darshan.
A long queue of devotees was seen outside the Gundicha Temple's main gate. Hundreds of devotees partook in mahaprasad in the Gundicha Temple premises, while many took it home for their families...////...
