Chennai, July 28 (Reporter) Widening the probe, the Special Police Teams on Sunday arrested three more people in connection with the July 5 murder of Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) Tamil Nadu Unit President K.Armstrong.
With this a total of 21 people were arrested in connection with the case, a police release said here today.
Those arrested included advocates and functionaries of the ruling DMK, AIADMK, BJP, Tamil Maanila Congress (TMC) and the son of a DMK functionary.
It said the special teams formed to crack the case todau arrested Mugilan (32), Vijayakumar alias Vijay (21) and Vignesh alias Appu (27).
After questioning them, all the three arrested suspects were produced before a court and remanded in judicial custody. They were later lodge in Puzhal Central prison.
Armstrong was hacked to death by a six-member gang in front of his Perambur house in Sembium
in North Chennai on the night of July 5.
Police said the murder was a sequel to the killing of History sheeter Arcot Suresh in the city in August last year.
The police have arrested 11 people immediately after the murder, including Ponnai V Balu--brother
of Suresh. Three more -- a woman AIADMK functionary and advocate Malarkodi Sekar, who was immediately sacked from the party, Hariharan of TMC and Satish, who was the son of a DMK functionary--were arrested on July 19.
The next day, police arrested a woman, Anjalai--expelled BJP Mahila Morcha functionary in North Chennai--and followed it up with the arrest of AIADMK Kadambathur Panchayat Third Ward Councillor Haridharan, in Tiruvallur West district.
Two more suspects, Siva and Pradeep, were arrested yesterday and it was followed by arrests of
three more people today, taking the total number of arrests in the case to 21, police said...////...
