Chennai, Aug 12 (Reporter) Tight security arrangements have been put in place in
Tamil Nadu for the 77th Independence Day celebrations on Thursday.
According to police sources, more than one lakh police personnel would be deployed
on security duty across the State.
Security arrangements were also tightened in all airports, railway stations, bus depots,
temples, places of worship, commercial establishments and in places where people
congregate in large numbers.
Patrolling has been intensified and check posts were installed in arterial junctions in
the State.
All the vehicles entering the State are subjected to thorough checks.
In Chennai, 9,000 Police Officers and men are deployed for bandobust duty for the
Independence Day celebrations
On the instructions of A.Arun, Commissioner of Police, Greater Chennai Police, special
security arrangements have been made.
On Independence Day, Chief Minister M K Stalin will hoist the National Flag at the ramparts
of Fort St.George and deliver his address.
A five-layered security arrangements have been made by at Fort St.George and
its surrounding areas, a police re,ease said here on Monday.
On the instructions of Mr Arun and under the supervision of N.Kannan, Addl.CoP
(South), R.Sudhakar, Addl. COP (Traffic) K.S.Narendra Nair, Addl.COP (North),
along with Joint Commissioners of Police, 9,000 police officers and men
from the rank of Deputy Commissioners of Police to Police Personnel would be
deployed for bandobust duty.
As part of a precautionary exercise, Chennai Airport, Railway Stations, Bus
terminus, Commercial establishments, Coastal areas, Religious places and in
place where people congregate in large numbers within Greater Chennai Police
jurisdiction are subjected to intensive checks and security tightened.
Besides, checks are being conducted in all the Lodges, Mansions and Hotels
in the Greater Chennai Police limit. In charge of managers and staffs have been
advised to inform Police about movement of suspicious persons.
Further, Patrol vehicles and Two wheeler Beats are intensively patrolling the
area within their jurisdiction.
Vehicle checks are being conducted by putting up barricades at important
junctions of all police stations jurisdictions in the GCP limit.
Meanwhile, reports said metal detectors were installed in all the railway
stations and all the passengers were allowed entry after being subjected
to thorough checks. The personal belongings of the passengers were also
checked and only those having valid ticket was allowed entry.
In airport a multi-layered security has been put in place. The CISF personnel
were monitoring the security arrangements round the block.
As part of security arrangements, entry of visitors were banned into the airport
and passengers were allowed entry after thorough checks. Their baggages were
also subjected to intense screening.
Police were also maintaining a strict vigil in the car parking area in both the
Domestic and International airports...////...
