Chennai, Jan 25 (Reporter) Heightened security arrangements have been made in Tamil Nadu for the Republic Day celebrations on Sunday. Nearly one lakh police personnel were deployed on security duty across Tamil Nadu, including 7,500 police in Chennai. A five-tier security arrangements have been put in place in Kamarajar Salai on the Marina Beach front where Governor R N Ravi will unfurl the National Flag in the presence of Chief Minister M K Stalin, Ministers, officials and representatives of three defence services. On the orders of Greater Chennai City Police Commissioner A Arun and under the supervision of Additional Commissioners, the city police have made elaborate bandobust arrangements to prevent any untoward incident during the celebrations. Drones are also deployed as part of fool-proof security measures. He said heightened vigil with the deployment of additional police forces were put in place at airports, railway stations, bus stations, beaches, shopping malls, temples, mosques, churches and other places of worship. Security has also been tightened at the Chennai airport. Sources said a five-layer security has been put in place and entry of visitors were banned. All those with valid tickets alone were allowed entry and the CISF, manning the airport security, are maintaining a round the clock vigil with regular checks at parking lot and other areas in and around the airport. Metal detectors were installed in all the railway stations and the baggages of the passengers are being thoroughly scanned. Those with valid tickets alone were allowed entry into the railway stations, police sources said. Periodic checks were being been conducted at lodges and hotels and their owners were asked share information about staying of any suspicious person. Patrolling and vehicle checks have been intensified across the city and all those entering the city were subjected to thorough checks. Police said the Governor will hoist the National Flag near the Labour Statue at the Marina beach front on the Kamarajar Road-Walajah Road Junction. In this regard, five layers of security arrangements have been made on Kamarajar Road, Chennai and its surrounding areas. Anti-sabotage checks are being carried out at all important places including Airport, Chennai Central, Egmore Railway Stations, Koyambedu and Madhavaram Bus Terminals by SCP personnel comprising BDDS and Dog Squad. Also, on the occasion of Republic Day, flying of drones and other unmanned aerial vehicles has been banned in Chennai for two days from today and beach road stretch was declared a 'Red Zone'. Strict legal action would be taken against those flying drones and other unmanned aerial vehicles in violation of the ban, police said...////...
