Kolkata, Mar 4 (Reporter) Trinamool Congress senior leader and Baranagar assembly constituency MLA Tapas Roy on Monday resigned from the assembly as he handed his letter to Speaker Biman Banerjee at his chamber, official sources said. Before tendering his resignation, chief minister Mamata Banerjee's cabinet colleague and education minister Bratya Basu and TMC leader Kunal Ghosh held a nearly two-hour meeting with Roy at his residence, but the three-time MLA from Baranagar was unrelenting and decided to quit the assembly. "I am a dustbin in the TMC, as nobody in the party has shown any compassion regarding the ED raid at my house." His decision happened at a time when the Lok Sabha poll was going to happen in the next two months. He has been with the TMC since the party was founded by Mamata Banerjee. He has been winning the Baranagar assembly constituency since 2011. Two days back Roy also accused TMC MP from north Kolkata Sudip Banerjee had set the ED to raid his house. Tapas Roy said, "Even the opposition leaders had extended support to him when the ED raid happened, but his top leadership and party colleagues showed their back to me."
