Chennai, Jan 9 (Reporter) The Tamil Nadu Government on Thursday adopted a Resolution urging the Centre to withdraw the UGC's decision granting more powers to Governors in appointment of Vice-Chancellors to Universities. The resolution moved by Chief Minister M K Stalin, was unanimously adopted by voice vote. Moving the resolution, Mr Stalin also said the draft 2024 guidelines issued by the UGC prescribing norms for UG and PG courses and the 2025 guidelines on promotions of Professors and Teachers in Universities, Colleges and Educational staff were drafted based on the National Education Police (NEP)-2020. Observing that the UGC guidelines not only went against the principles of Federalism as enshrined in the basic tenets of the Constitution, Mr Stalin said it also affected the Higher Education system followed in the State. "Since these guidelines were aimed at affecting the strong educational infrastructure put in place in Tamil Nadu based on the concepts of Social Justice and would severely affect the future of the Tamil Youth, this House urges the Union Education Ministry to withdraw these two draft UGC guidelines and also granting more powers to Governors in VCs appointments", he said. Accusing the Centre of making repeated attempts to impede the flow of education in the state, the Chief Minister said check dams were being built by those who did not like everyone to gain access to education and secure a good job to lead a quality life. The NEP 2020 was imposed to destroy the school education and in the name of holding Common Exams the government, with repeated dilutions, is trying to prevent everyone from pursuing their education. Stating that the Tamil Nadu government has been strongly opposing these moves by the Centre, Mr Stalin referred to the introduction of NEET that shattered the dreams of the medical aspirants and pointed out the state had lost a lot of young sisters like Anitha and others. "But every year, the NEET exams remained number one following various irregularities like impersonation, question paper leak and in awarding of marks", he said. 'Now the Centre has started its efforts to destroy the Universities with the UGC granting broader powers to the Governor in appointing VCs ", he said, adding, this would only end up and lead to destroying the universities...////...
