Chennai, July 13 (Reporter) The Ruling DMK retained the Vikravandi Assembly seat in Tamil Nadu
after its candidate Anniyur Siva secured a resounding win with a margin of over 67,000 votes
over his PMK rival C.Anbumani, as counting of votes polled in the July 10 bye-election ended
on Saturday, amid tight security.
After 21 rounds of counting, Siva, who polled 1,24.053 votes, was declared elected by a margin
of 67,757 votes as the DMK retained its stronghold in the Vikravandi constituency.
The PMK candidate, who contested as an ally of the BJP, polled 56,296 votes and finished second.
Naam Tamizhar Katchi (NTK) candidate Dr Abhinaya polled 10,602 votes and finished a distant third.
District Election Officer and Villupuram District Collector C.Palani handed over the winning certificate to Mr Siva in the presence of senior Party leaders, including Minister and DMK strongman in
Villupuram K Ponmudy.
A total of 29 candidates contested the poll of which 27 of them, including Dr Abhinaya forfeited their deposits.
This is the third victory and second in succession for the DMK in Vikravandi.
The constituency came into being in 2007 after the delimitation exercise and the first election was held in 2011.
This was the fifth election and the second bypoll held in this constituency.
Of the four elections held so far, the DMK had won twice. The seat was held by CPI(M) in 2011,
the DMK in 2016, the AIADMK in 2019 bypoll and by DMK in 2021...////...
