Chennai, Jan 5 (Reporter) The first session of the Tamil Nadu Assembly in 2025 will begin here on Monday with the customary Governor R N Ravi's New Year address to the House.
The session was expected to be stormy as both the Opposition parties and the allies of the ruling DMK are expected to raise the recent sexual assault incident at the State-run Anna University
which has sparked a major outrage in the State.
Already the VCK, an ally of the DMK, had submitted a letter to Legislative Assembly Speaker
M Appavu seeking to move to a Special Calling Attention Motion of the Anna University issue, in which a second year girl was allegedly sexually assaulted in the campus revently.
Police have arrested one person Gnanasekaran (37) in connection with the incident on a complaint by the victim.
While Opposition parties, including the AIADMK and the BJP apart from a demanding a CBI Probe, alleged that the arrested person was a member of the DMK, Tamil Nadu Law Minister S Reghupathy and DMK Organisational |Secretary R S Bharathi, who had been constantly meeting the media on this issue, stoutly denied it.
They said the arrested person was not at all a member of the DMK and has no links with the party.
However, Chief Minister M K Stalin was yet to talk on the issue and was expected to reply when leaders of various parties move a Special Calling Attention motion on the issue.
After the Governor's address, the Business Advisory Committee would meet at the Speaker's chamber to decide on the duration of the session, which was expected to last for 3-4 days.
The day proceedings is likely to adjourned on Tuesday after adopting a condolence resolution
for the death of sitting Congress MLA EVKS Elangovan, who was elected from the Erode East Assembly seat in the byelections held following his son Thiru Mahan EvRa's death.
Later, the session might last for 2-3 days till Friday when the debate on the motion of thanks to
the Governor for his address, will be taken up.
Other key issues concerning the State was also expected to be raised by the Opposition parties...////...
