Madurai (Tamil Nadu), Dec 20 (Reporter) A Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Special Court, Madurai on Friday sentenced four persons, including then Chief Branch Manager of Indian Overseas Bank (IOB), Palayamkottai Branch in Tirunelveli district to three to four years Rigorous Imprisonment (RI)
in a bank fraud case.
In its verdict, thecourt also imposed total fine of Rs 3.4 lakh on the accused.
CBI registered the instant case on September 24, 2010 against the accused G.Bala Subramanian, then Chief Branch Manager, IOB, Palayamkottai branch, and three others, N.Kalyanasundaram, N.Mahalingam, and M.Ammamuthu, a release from CBI said.
The accused persons entered into criminal conspiracy to cheat the bank in the matter of sanctioning open Cash Credit, Term Loan, vehicle Loan, etc by willful violation of bank norms, without proper credit analysis and thus caused a wrongful loss of Rs.2,42,37,431 to the bank during the period 2007 to 2010.
After completion of investigation, a charge-sheet was filed by CBI on August 30, 2011 against the accused including those convicted by the Court.
After trial, the Court held the accused guilty and sentenced Bala Subramanian to three years
RI with a fine of Rs.80,000, Kalyanasundaram to four years RI with a fine of Rs. 1.4 lakh,
Mahalingam to three years RI with a fine of Rs. 60,000 and Ammamuthu to three years RI with
a fine of Rs. 60,000, the release added...////...
