Virudhunagar (Tamil Nadu) Jun 29 (Reporter) Four workers were killed on the spot in an explosion in a private fireworks factory at Banduvarpatti village under Sattur taluk in this Southern district of Tamil Nadu on Saturday.
Police sources said the explosion occurred after a massive fire broke out at Guru Star Fireworks Factory when the workers were engaged in mixing highly inflammable chemicals meant for making fancy variety crackers.
The deceased were identified as Rajkumar (45), Selvakumar (40), Mohan (40) and Marisamy (38).
The explosions razed down three warehouses inside the factory, where a huge stock of finished crackers and chemicals were stored.
Preliminary investigations revealed that friction while handling the chemicals triggered the fire, but police were investigating to find out the exact cause of the explosion.
Personnel of the Tamil Nadu Fire and Rescue Services department rushed to the factory and extinguished the fire after a couple of hours of battle.
The mutilated bodies were removed to Sattur government hospital for post-mortem.
Senior revenue and police officials visited the factory and held inquiries.
Sattur taluk police have registered a case and are investigating.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister M.K.Stalin condoled the death of four workers in the incident and announced an ex-gratia of Rs 3 lakhs each to the families of the deceased...////...
