Chennai, Jan 30 (Reporter) Amid differences between the ruling DMK and the Raj Bhavan
over a host of issues, Tamil Nadu Governor R N Ravi stirred a fresh row by questioning
Chief Minister M K Stalin's decision to pay tributes to Father of Nation at the Government
Museum premises instead of at the Gandhi Mandapam on his 77th death anniversary on
Thursday.
Mr Ravi sought to know whether it makes any sense to do Gandhi memorial events--his
birthday and martyrdom day--in a corner of a city museum.
Mr Ravi said his repeated requests to the Chief Minister to accord due to respect to the
Father of the Nation and hold such events in a befitting manner at Gandhi Mandapam
has met with stubborn refusal.
The Raj Bhavan took to X to express Mr Ravi's displeasure over the Chief Minister's decision
to pay floral tributes to the Apostle of Peace at the Museum complex instead of the Gandhi
Mandapam at Guindy.
Observing that during his life time Gandhi Ji was vigorously opposed and mocked by the
followers of Dravid ideology, Mr Ravi asked should he continued to be mocked at even
today?.
"Gandhi Mandapam is a grand memorial of the Father of the Nation built over a sprawling
land adjacent to the Guindy National Park, Chennai by K. Kamaraj in 1956", he wrote.
"Does it make any sense to do Gandhi memorial events - his birthday and martyrdom day
in a corner of a city museum?", he asked, in a post both in English and Tamil.
"My repeated requests to the Chief Minister to accord due respect to the Father of the Nation
and hold such events in a befitting manner at the Gandhi Mandapam met with stubborn refusal",
the Governor said.
"During his life time Gandhi Ji was vigorously opposed and mocked by the followers of Dravid
ideology. But should he continued to be mocked at even today?" Governor Ravi", the Raj Bhavan
said in the post.
Earlier, after paying floral tributes to a portrait of Mahatma Gandhi at Raj Bhavan and later at
the Gandhi Mandapam, Mr Ravi posted "Paying homage to Mahatma Gandhi on his Punyatithi."
"A beacon of peace, selflessness and non-violence whose life and timeless ideals guide our
collective vision of inclusive, compassionate and self-reliant Bharat by 2047 for a harmonious,
equitable and prosperous world", it said...////...
