TN liquor tragedy toll rises to 47, 30 still in serious condition

Chennai, June 21 (Reporter) The spurious liquor tragedy at Karunapuram village in Kallakurichi district of Tamil Nadu mounted to 47, District Collector M S Prashanth announced on Friday. Talking to reporters, Mr Prashanth, who took charge as New Collector after his predecessor was transferred following the tragic incident, said the condition 30 people, who were undergoing treatment in various hospitals, were said to be serious. He said a total of 165 people, who had consumed the spurious liquor told in sachets, were admitted to hospitals. Of them 47 have died, he said. The Collector said 90 people have recovered after treatment. Meanwhile, a special team from CB-CID, who ws entrusted with the probe, has began the inquiry and also visited those undergoing treatment in the hospitals The Tamil Nadu government has already transferred Collector Shravan Kumar, suspended the District Superintendent of Police and nine others, and also ordered a Judicial Probe headed by Retired Judge B Gokuldass. He was also submit his report to the government suggesting measures to prevent recurrence of such incident, in three months. Promising stern action against those who supplied the methanol that has caused the deaths, Chief Minister M K Stalin said so far, four people have been arrested in connection with the incident...////...
