TN: Worker killed, 3 injured in blast at fireworks unit in Thiruvalangadu

Mayiladuthurai, Aug 24 (Reporter) A 26-year-old worker was killed and three others sustained severe burn injuries in a blast at a private licensed fireworks factory in Thiruvalangadu village under Kuthalam taluk in Mayiladuthurai district of Tamil Nadu on Saturday. Police said the deceased was identified as Karnan of Thiruvalangadu. The injured Kaliyaperumal (52), Lakshmanan (46) and Kumar (37) were admitted to Tiruvarur government medical college hospital. The workers were engaged in mixing highly explosive materials for making the fancy variety of crackers including aerial displays at the Pandiyan Fireworks Factory, when the blast occurred. One of the production units was destroyed in the blast. Tamil Nadu Fire and Rescue Services personnel from Kuthalam rushed to the site and extinguished the fire. Kuthalam police have registered a case and are investigating to find out any violation of safety norms by the factory authorities...////...
