Virudhunagar (Tamil Nadu), Sep 19 (Reporter) A worker was killed and another seriously injured, when a fire at a private fireworks factory ignited a series of explosions at Sevalpatti village near Vembakottai in Virudhunagar district on Thursday.
Police said the fire broke out due to suspected friction, when the two workers were unloading highly inflammable chemicals used for making fancy variety crackers including aerial display from a load autorickshaw to one of the storage godowns inside the factory.
The fire that triggered huge explosions had completely razed the godown.
One of the workers, identified as G.Govindaraj (27) who was trapped in the debris was killed, while another worker P.Gurumurthy (19) was rescued with severe injuries and admitted to the government hospital at Sivakasi, where his condition was stated to be critical.
Vembakottai police have registered a case and arrested the foreman of the factory.
A probe was on to ascertain the cause of the fire.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister M.K.Stalin condoled the death of the worker in the fire accident and announced an ex-gratia of Rs 3 lakh to the family of the deceased.
He also granted Rs two lakh ex-gratia to the family of Gurumurthy, who sustained 100 percent burn injuries in the incident and directed the officials to provide best treatment to him...////...
