TN Youth Cong functionary held in Armstrong murder case, sacked from party, total 22 arrested

Chennai, Aug 7 (Reporter) Widening the probe, the Special Police Teams on Wednesday arrested a Tamil Nadu Youth Congress functionary in connection with the July 5 murder of Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) Tamil Nadu Unit President K.Armstrong. With this a total of 22 people were arrested in connection with the case, a police release said here today. Those arrested included advocates and functionaries of the ruling DMK, AIADMK, BJP, Tamil Maanila Congress (TMC) and the son of a DMK functionary. It said the special teams formed to crack the case today arrested Aswathaman (32), who is a functionary of the Tamil Nadu Youth Congress (TNYC), who was immediately sacked from the party. After questioning him, he was produced before a court and remanded in judicial custody. He was later lodged in Puzhal Central prison. Soon after his arrest, Aswathaman was expelled from the primary membership of the TNYC with immediate effect. In a statement, TNYC State President M.Lenin Prasath said the decision against Aswathaman was made following actions of his deemed inconsistent with the values and principles of our party. He said the TNYC was committed to maintaining the highest standards of integrity and discipline within its ranks.
