Chennai, Oct 13 (Reporter) Main line traffic was restored in a record time at the
Kavaraip[ettai railway station after Friday night's train accident involving
Mysuru-Darbhanga Bagmati Express with a goods train at Kavaraipettai
and the first train was operated in the section.
A Southern Railway release said the The down line was given track fit at
0700 hrs on Sunday and the first train was operated after completion of
Over Head Equipment Works at 08.00 hrs and Signalling reconnection
works at 08.30 hrs.
Train No. 12842 Dr MGR Chennai Central - Shalimar Coromamdel Express
is the first train that passed the Kavaraipettai accident spot at 09.08 hrs today
since the accident took place.
Hence Main line Train Traffic stands restored in the section* in record time after
the accident, the release said.
Meanwhile, restoration works are still going on in the Suburban lines.
Like yesterday, Suburban services (Specials) will be operated periodically from
Chennai Central Suburban Railway Station upto Minjur and back and in the other
end from Sulurupetta to Gummidipundi (specials) until further advice.
On Saturday evening, the Southern Railway said coaches and wagons, which were
derailed in the collision on the loop line at Kavaraipettai Railway station, were removed
from the tracks.
In an update on restoration works at Kavaraipettai accident site, Railways said the
UP Line at Kavaraipettai Station has been cleared of derailed coaches.
The Engineering Track and OHE Works have commenced.
The restoration work at Kavaraipettai is progressing rapidly, with the UP line now
cleared of derailed coaches and wagons.
A total of 10 coaches, including 9 AC coaches and a power car from Mysuru-Dharbanga
Bagmati Express, along with 2 wagons from the goods train, have been removed using
cranes.
With the derailed rolling stock cleared, engineering track restoration and OHE work have commenced...////...
