Chennai, Oct 11 (Reporter) The Southern Railway on Friday night announced diversion
of two trains following a collision between an express train and a goods train near
here in which three passengers were injured and shifted to hospital.
Reports said several passengers were rescued from ill-fated coaches and at least
three of them were admitted to government Stanley Medical college hospital for
treatment.
More than 20 ambulances from Chennai and neighbouring districts were rushed to
the spot and relief operations are in full swing.
A Railway release said due to Train accident of Train No.12578 Mysuru-Darbhanga
Bagmati Express at Kavaraipettai in Chennai Division today, two trains were diverted.
The Train No.13351 Dhanbad – Alappuzha that left Dhanbad at 11.35 hrs from Dhanbad
on 10th October is diverted to run via Renigunta – Melapalayam – Katpadi,duly skipping
stoppages at Nayudupetta, Sulurupettah, Dr MGR Chennai Central and Arakkonam.
Train No.02122 Jabalpur – Madurai Superfast Special that left Jabalpur at 16.25 hrs on
10th October 2024 is diverted to run via Renigunta, Melapalayam – Chengalpattu, duly
skipping stoppages at Chennai Egmore and Tambaram, it said.
Meanwhile, railway sources told UNI that the suburban EMU trains on the Chennai
Central-Tiruvallur-Arakkonam and on the Gummidipoondi section was not affectd
following the accident...////...
