Hubballi, Sep 25 (Reporter) Passenger train services on the South Western Railway (SWR) network were significantly disrupted following the derailment of a train near the Bheema bridge between Lachyan and Tadwal stations early this morning.
The derailment was attributed to track settlement and sinkage in the Gadag–Hotgi section of the Hubballi–Solapur line while the train was traveling at a speed of 12 km/h, according to an official statement from SWR headquarters.
Fortunately, no casualties were reported.
SWR General Manager Arvind Srivastava and Hubballi Divisional Manager Harsh Khare, along with other senior railway officials, rushed to the site to oversee restoration efforts and ensure the swift resumption of services.
As a consequence of the derailment, around 1,000 passengers were stranded at the Vijayapura railway station, where they were receiving catering and other assistance. To facilitate their travel, nine buses were deployed to transport affected passengers from train numbers 16535 Mysore-Pandarapur and 17319 SSS Hubballi–Hyderabad Express.
In response to the incident, Train No. 16588 Bikaner Jn – Yesvantpur Express, which departed from Bikaner Junction. yesterday, was diverted via Pune, Miraj, Belagavi, and SSS Hubballi, bypassing stops at Solapur, Vijayapura, Alamatti, Bagalkot, and Gadag.
Additionally, the Hyderabad–Vijayapura train was partially canceled.
Other trains affected by the incident include Mysore–Pandarapura, Dharwad–Solapur, Pandarapura – Mysore, Hospete–Vijayapura, Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus–Hosapete and vice versa, Mysore – Bagalkote and vice versa, Vijayapura – Raichur, Hubballi – Hyderabad Express, and Sainagar Shirdi Terminus – Mysore Express.
The SWR is working diligently to restore normalcy and minimie inconvenience to passengers...////...
