Aizawl, July 21 (Reporter) The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) plans to inaugurate the Sairang Terminal Station and commence railway services to the doorstep of Aizawl by the end of July 2025, Governor Dr Hari Babu Kambhampati has announced.
The Governor said this after reviewing the Bairabi – Sairang New Line Project (51.38 km) at a meeting at the Raj Bhavan.
NFR's Chief Engineer Vinod Kumar, along with Deputy Chief Engineer Harjimal Meena, provided updates on the railway construction project, which will bring goods and passenger services to Aizawl City, Mizoram.
Governor Kambhampati thanked the Central Government and Indian Railways for completing this transformative project. He congratulated the people of Mizoram, emphasising that the railway services would significantly reduce transportation costs and travel time between Mizoram and Assam by 3 to 4 hours. He highlighted the positive impact on developmental activities within the state due to the more affordable railway services.
The project's latest revised cost stands at Rs 8213.72 Crores, with 93 percent of physical works completed. The new line includes four stations: Hortoki, Kawnpui, Mualkhang, and Sairang, divided into four sections: Bairabi – Hortoki, Hortoki – Kawnpui, Kawnpui – Mualkhang, and Mualkhang – Sairang.
Following a successful trial run on the Bairabi – Hortoki section, the Hortoki Station is expected to be inaugurated in the coming days, with railway services up to Hortoki starting soon. The NFR plans to commission services along the Hortoki – Kawnpui and Kawnpui – Mualkhang sections in the next few months, leading up to the final inauguration of the Sairang Terminal Station by the end of July 2025...////...
