Tripura begins a 4-day R-Day celebration on Netaji’s birthday

Agartala, Jan 23 (Reporter) With the celebration of 126th birth anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose on Tuesday, Tripura began four days of observance of 175th Republic Day slated on Friday with a series of events and programs across the state. Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha launched the celebration in the morning at Netaji Subhas Vidyaniketan here hoisting the national tri-colour on the campus. He joined a mammoth colourful procession of the students and alumni association of the school, which moved across the city depicting various themes of nationalism and the contribution of Netaji and Azad Hind Force in the freedom movement. He said Prime Minister Narendra Modi had first recognized Netaji in a meaningful manner in 2016 and had hoisted the National flag and unveiled the plaque to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the formation of Azad Hind Government on 21st October 2018 at the Red Fort. Indian national flag was hoisted in Andaman and Nicobar Islands while Subhash Chandra Bose Aapda Prabandhan Puraskar was instituted on the 125th birth anniversary of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose to honour the invaluable contribution and selfless service rendered by individuals and organizations in India in the field of disaster management, Dr Saha stated. “As announced by the Prime Minister to honour the contributions of Netaji, we have begun the celebration of Republic Day on Jan 23 and it will end on Jan 26. A series of programs have been scheduled for four days across the state and all the public buildings and important locations have been decorated and illuminated with national tri-colour lights,” Dr Saha pointed out. A four-day flower show and exhibition began at Rabindra Kanan followed by a day-long cultural program at Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan in the city remembering Netaji. The second day of the festivities will feature a friendly cricket match between visually impaired students at MBB Stadium, and a women's friendly football match at Swami Vivekananda Stadium followed by a drawing and painting competition for children. The third day will witness a cross-country race from Umakanta Academy, a tribal Folk Dance Competition, and a cultural program with school students. The main event of Republic Day will take place on Jan 26, when the national flag will be hoisted on all government and private buildings followed by a day-long program of social service, cultural program, seminar, and quiz competition...////...
