Two killed, 2 hurt in cracker unit blast, CM announces solaitum

Virudhunagar (Tamil Nadu), Aug 14 (Reporter) Two workers were killed on the spot and an equal number injured in a blast at a licensed private fireworks factory at Mayathevanpatti village near Srivilliputhur in this Southern district of Tamil Nadu on Wednesday. Police said the blast occurred due to friction when the workers were unloading highly inflammable chemicals used for making fancy variety crackers from a van to the godown at Jayanthi Fireworks Factory. The godown was completely destroyed in the fire following the blast. Tamil Nadu Fire and Rescue Services personnel from Sivakasi and Srivilliputhur rushed to the spot and extinguished the fire. The deceased were identified as Pullakutti (65) and Karthik Eswaran (35). The bodies were removed to the government hospital at Sivakasi for post-mortem, where the injured Bose (35) and Manikandan (31) were admitted for treatment. Senior revenue and police officials visited the factory and held an inquiry. Malli police have registered a case and are investigating. Meanwhile, Chief Minister M K Stalin expressed deep anguish and grief over the incident and announced a solatium of Rs three lakhs each to the families of the deceased and Rs 50,000 each to those injured.
